Safest way to clean old NES cartridges?

My old cartridges are having trouble loading. What's the best way to clean the contacts without damaging them? I've heard mixed things about using alcohol.

Definitely use high-purity isopropyl alcohol (90%+) and a cotton swab. Works like a charm and it's perfectly safe.

I second that. Avoid using anything abrasive like Brasso, it will ruin the contacts over time.
